Shopper At The Thrift Store
10/29/93
She came out the swinging door
With two plastic bags
Bulging like potato sacks.
She Stopped to rest against
The ledge of the picture window.
As she waited for her ride
She pulled out a khaki shirt
And held it up as to sense
How it will look on her husband?
Boyfriend?
And gave a smile
Like a Cheshire cat.
Getting impatient waiting for her ride,
She moved to the other corner
Of the barrack-like building
Resting against its wall.
Within seconds, came out
A pair of black dress boots
Into which she first
Stuck her hand,
Then held at arms length
And smiled,
She sure was proud
Of her new purchase.
And then to my amazement
She eased those shiny boots
To her nose;
Still smiling...
