poetry by Noele Creamer

Past

It all comes rushing back
The memories start off soft.
Gentle touches, loving eyes,
The warmth of lips touching.

Then reality bursts through-
Grabs me by the hair.
The anger, the agony
Realizing it's over.

I try to remember
Only the bad segments-
Convince myself
It was good to let go.

But there's still a thought-
Soft candles glowing
Illuminating entwined flesh
Breathing synchronized.

Once we were one.
Once we belonged.
We were part of something
Larger than our sum.

Now ripped apart
Torn at the seams
We cannot, will not
Repair the damage done.

Forever separate entities
Remembering a time
When long ago, united
We shared a destiny
